AFRICAN INDEPENDENCE POLITICAL PARTIES THAT RULE TO DATE.

One of the pleasant things that came with independence in most African countries in early 90s was multy party democracy. Since independence, most African countries have have advanced in terms of democratic elections which involve several political parties. However, there are some political parties that as much as they are the pioneer political parties they have continued to dominate the political scenes in their nations. They include;

1. The African National Congress (ANC)
This is the Republic of South Africa's political party that led the country to independence in 1994. The party was founded in 1912 by John Dube and Pixley ka Isaka Seme. It is currently headed by Cyril Ramaphosa who is expected to succeed Jacob Zouma in the next general elections.


2. The Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO
It was founded in 1962 by Eduardo Mondlane and Samora Machel who led the country into independence in 1975. The party has formulated the government since then to date. It is currently headed by Filipe Jacinto Nyusi who is the president of Mozambique.

3. Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front ( ZANU–PF).
It was formulated in 1987 by Robert Mugabe and Joshua Nkomo. ZANU - PF has been the ruling party in Zimbabwe since independence in 1980. The party is currently headed by Emmerson Mnangagwa who was forcefully installed and made the president in 2017 due to public displeasure by Mugabe's rule.

4. Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM)
It was founded as Cameroonian National Union in 1966 by Ahmadou Ahidjo. The party was changed to CPDM in 1982 by Paul Biya who became the party leader.  Biya has been the president of Cameroon from 1972 and CPDM party leader to date.

5. Congolese Labour Party. (PCT)
It was formed in 1969 by Marien Ngouabi. The party has dorminated Brazzaville politics till today. He is currently headed by the 5th president of the Republic of Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso. He has led the Congolese Labour Party from 1969.

6. People's Rally for Progress
It is the rulling party in Djibouti since 1979. It was formulated in 1979 and was declared asbthe only party in Djibouti. Though the country indroduced dorminated the country's politics to date. It ia headed by Ismail Omar Guelleh who has headed the country since 1999.
