REIMBURSEMENT IN CAMPUS LEADERSHIP
REIMBURSEMENT IN CAMPUS LEADERSHIP
If one wants to utilize fully the campus opportunities and resources legally and illegally, getting into campus leadership is always the easiest preference. Campus leadership has seemed to become very vital especially to the politicians, their tribesmen and to the University Administration. At least every campus administration has an influence in student elections so that the status quo in the Administration can be maintained.
Besides that, the student leaders who risk all their resources and their lives during the campaigns always have a reason to smile when they get to power. First, they make sure that all the wealth they used for campaigns are reacquired. This is done by making proposals for projects which never take place eventually. A security director proposes for a security awareness project of 300 k but uses only 50 k and pockets the rest. In some University since time immemorial, the secretary generals have always used the Students Organization constitution Review project to get funds then finally prepare drafts which never get approved.
Academically, the leaders get a lot of advantages especially if they cooperate with the administration. Getting a First Class Honors would not require a lot of toil as it would be to any other student. It doesn’t mean that these people are academic dwarfs but the kind of commitment these people have, travelling from city to city and country to country would not give them enough time to study and achieve the maximum grades.
Campus politics have evolved and taken a tribal nature. This has made it resemble our national politics where a leader gives his tribe the first priority. Every community is always in danger if no one represents them in the Students Governing Council. Bursaries are awarded only to the ruling tribe, the accommodations director ensures that students from his tribe are accommodated in the university premises first and the students’ lawyer will always ensure that a student from his tribe is not expelled easily.
Life after Campus for these people is never a hustle. Apart from the fake first class degree, the student makes enough networks to ensure they are employed easily after school. Some who worked fairly with the Administration get employed in the institutions as tutors while some even get international scholarships. At least every ex SGC member rides after coming out of office and some get directly in to politics in their counties.
With these advantages, any influential student with money would always risk his resources, his life and lives of other students in order to achieve their goals. This is why campus politics are coupled with incitements and use of huge amounts of money to an extent that it becomes a life and death issue. Administrators sponsor candidates so that filth in the big offices cannot be exposed. Students who are not aware of this game are used to cause troubles then finally get suspended.
